Dance Syllabi (Australian Teachers of Dancing)

 

ATOD

The Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) syllabus provides the foundations for our technical development programs in classical ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and contemporary dance. ATOD are leaders in the field of dance education, both nationally and internationally, delivering dynamic, innovative and engaging syllabi. Classes are offered for 3 year olds through to advanced levels.

Foundation Dance (Tinies)

  • A delightful pre-school dance program for 3-5 year olds.
  • Combines basic skills in classical ballet, jazz and tap.
  • Introduces children to the magic and fun of mime, music and dance.

Classical Ballet

  • A comprehensive development program teaching artistry and building strength (the technical foundations for all forms of dance).
  • Includes national character.

Jazz Moves

  • The complete Jazz program encompassing many styles, such as Broadway, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Funk and Lyrical.
  • Incorporates stretching and strengthening, turns, kicks, jumps, historical steps, up to the minute moves, progressions and dances.

Tap

  • Students learn musicality, artistry, correct technique, body awareness, and development of strength and control.
  • Diverse tap styles are encompassed, including Street Beat (percussion based tap dancing using cross rhythms, cannons and syncopation).

Contemporary

  • Teaches the fundamental components of contemporary/modern dance, providing a solid base for future work in dance companies.
  • Developed by industry professional Adam Wheeler in conjunction with other industry professionals.

Hip Hop

  • Incorporates the latest moves in street dance.
  • Teaches correct technique and body alignment, while encouraging individuality and personal style.
